This board is for the discussion of low fat and low sugar diets.
These are topics that are often requested in the other dietary discussions, but I think they deserve a discssion of their own.

  s do? thnks JoH

I am delighted to find your site and thank you for giving the information about low fat/low sugar diets freely. I sought uk books dealing with baking items using low fat low sugar ingredients to no avail. I like simple food -just like mother made - unfortunately mother didn't know what we know today-extrapolation was in it's infancy and ignorance was bliss. However notwithstanding the lack of internet my mother knew instinctively what was good for us -she herself, like me, had reactive hyperglycemia and so I was brought up on porridge and toast for breakfast['those Kelloggs are full of sugar'] fried potato scallops 'butties, egg bread, or beans on toast, plus an apple - for lunch;, beef stew and dumplings, or lamb stew with barley -for dinner; followed always by a dessert-homemade usually; slice of egg custard or apple pie and custard or sultana scones etc

Somehow with the onslaught of processed foods I was seduced away from my roots til I ballooned out and got sick........ now I am desperate to learn how to bake like mother, how to cook like mother, to eschew all processed foods, to be slim and healthy again. When I replace my printer ink I will download the whole text but have you thought about selling the book on the internet like other authors do? thnks JoH

 Which diet to lose weight
  Peter
A recent study at the Children's Hospital, Boston, may explain why some people lose weight on a particular diet and others do not.

They put overweight young adults on either a low fat, or a low sugar (low-glycaemic load (L-GL)) diet.

The L-GL diet limits the intake of foods that raise blood sugar levels quickly such as white bread, and refined breakfast cereals, potato, carrots.

Those people who naturally produce high levels of insulin lost more weight on the L-GL diet, losing an average of 5.8 kilograms over 18 months compared to just 1.2 kg for people on the low-fat diet. They also lost significantly more of their body fat.

So if you are following this diet in order to lose weight, it is worth trying to keep to a low-glycaemic load to see if you benefit from this.

 A warm welcome
  T. Doull
Hi I also have reactive hypoglycemia and I am really struggling with it. We just moved back down to New Zealand about a week ago, and I am dealing with alot of added pressures right now. We have eaten a lot of takeaways the last couple of weeks what with packing and travelling. I have tried a high protein low carb diet, but am worried that it is not balanced. My blood sugars are wonky. I would like to try the food combining as well as exercize but i don't know if that would help or hinder. I want a dietary lifestyle that is very easy to maintain, not too strict that will keep me healthy, emotionally balanced, and give me the energy I need to take care of my 5 young children, my nephew, and myself. HELP!!!! Thank you for your time, TDoull
